I have a 1983 Spider in Reno. I purchased an engine maintenance manual for the L-Jetronic Bosch Ignition System.
In the manual it addresses a high altitude adjustment.
It indicates to connect AMP shunt to a connector coming from the harness next to the ECU. The rest of the page has pictures of all of the parts involved. It states to check the idle specifications, but has no detailed procedure on what to check and what additional adjustments are needed.
Questions:
1. Do I even need to be concerned with this at elevation of 5000ft?
2. Does anyone have a procedure on how to check the idle specifications?
Modern electronically controlled fuel injection and ignition systems (which include your Bosch L-Jetronic system) do not need any additional adjustments for barometric changes (i.e. high altitude). All those little sensors (O2, MAFS, TPS, CTS, etc. do the job for you. In fact, any required adjustments are done at the factory and the ports are then sealed to keep us from sticking screwdrivers in where they don't belong. Unless you are having a specific problem, just leave everything alone.
If you still feel the need to fidget, go get an old British car with Lucas ignition and SU carburettors ... it will keep you busy for housrs ... and days ... and months ... and years ... and ....
