• Date: May 13-15 (tentative)
• Time: 5pm Friday
• Organizer: Jerry Kelley
Arrival and departure times are optional. Informal evening socializing in the Plantation Lounge. Fill the days as you wish with history, archaeology, museums, golf, water activities or kicking back. The NATURE COAST has been preparing for your visit since 500 BC.
The structured part of the weekend is to depart the Plantation on Crystal River at 6 PM SAT., drive the West Ozello Trail, arriving at Peck’s Old Port Cove on Crystal Bay for a delightful dinner. West Ozello Trail [THE TAIL OF THE GATOR] is a 9 mile stretch with 67 apexes at about sea level. CAR & DRIVER magazine describes it as “The only good road in Florida.” Peck’s is an institution. The Springs pump 300,000 gallons of water per day at 72 degrees. The area is noted for seafood, especially Florida Blue Crabs.
The sunset over the Bay is spectacular. We have to get a group picture for ALFA OWNER.
After dinner we drive the “TAIL” to the Plantation for optional socializing about everyone’s discoveries.
According to my GPS Jax to Crystal River is 161 miles. The driving choices are drifting down on the back roads or fast on pthe Interstates.
NOTE: An email will come out shortly to determine interest. If
enough people are interested we will seek a group rate at the hotel.
